Unable to Call Try Again Vtech

    Have someone call me, I click Answer, nothing happens.

    We are both on Google Fi, coming from the Microsoft Surface Duo. We can both place outgoing calls, but neither of us can answer incoming calls.

    The phone stops ringing when you attempt to answer, but it doesn't actually pick up. It just hangs, and I have to call the person back. He and I are unable to call each other, cause neither of us can answer the other's call. This is weird. We need our phones to answer calls.

    On a call with Google Fi Support. From Safe Mode I am able to answer calls. So it is something running on the phone in normal mode. BRB with more info.

    OK. So I uninstalled (several apps at a time, then restarted after each group) every single last app on my phone. And the issue still persisted. I literally had less apps on my phone than if I had simply done a factory reset and started over. And even then, the problem still continued. So... whatever Safe Mode fixes, I couldn't reproduce it by uninstalling every single app on my phone.

    Next I did a factory reset and I only installed the Google Fi app. And I was able to successfully answer a phone call.

    So now I am attempting to transfer all of my data with the OnePlus Switcher app instead of with the Android Switcher app. I will let you know what happens after that. The migration is slower, so it may be doing something different.

    Same problem after using the one plus switcher. Still can't answer incoming calls.

    This is a pretty major issue for such a nice phone. This phone is super rad.

    After about 10 factory resets, I was able to find out that the phone won't answer calls if the Google Fi app is installed. This is clearly a Google Fi issue, not a OnePlus issue. Thank you for hte support.

    Thanks a lot @aaronfrost, that saved me a lot of time and gave me a great place to start. I tried uninstalling the fi app and was finally able to answer calls. Also I noticed that if I uninstalled and reinstalled the app I could answer calls but if I changed privacy settings e.g. vpn or restarted my phone, I wouldn't be able to answer calls again. But after trying a few other things I was able to determine the issue is actually with wifi calling, and if I re-installed the app, and made sure not to turn on wifi calling when setting up the google fi app I was able to accept calls, and could even turn on vpn and spam filtering too without any effect. Hope that works for you.

    TLDR: try reinstalling the app from scratch, but make sure you don't setup wifi calling, and you should be able to answer calls and have google fi setup.

    P.S. I actually called myself in between those steps to double check but don't think that mattered. Also you might just be able to turn wifi calling off in the fi app without reinstalling but I never tried that.
